Greetings Parents,

This is my last newsletter. : ( Thank you all for making this a wonderful year!

Thank you all for attending Morning with Mom. It was a great event. I know that all of the kids loved having you there. They were all so proud.

Thursday is Kindergarten graduation at 2p.m. Students will wear jeans and thier orange shirts. You may take your kindergartener home after the event. If you would like to take them with you, please stop by the classroom immediately after the program. Your child will recieve a special diploma, as well as, a small treat. I will need all graduation hats back after the ceremony as these are property of the school. We will use them for years to come.  Please realize that you may only take your Kindergartener. Mrs. Becky will not be able to call down for your other children.

Friday is our field trip to Fantastic Caverns. Thank you all for sending in your forms and money. Students will need to bring a disposable sack lunch, and will need to wear their orange shirts.

May 21st is Field Day. This is a special event that Coach Graham runs. The theme this year is Olympics. This event will be all morning, so please put sunscreen on your child before school. They will be outside from 9-11. This year we will not have water games. You do not need to send any extra clothes, but please dress them appropriatly for the weather that day and NO flip flops.

May 23rd is the last day of school! School will be out at 1:30. Please make sure to make arrangements.

Reminders Week of 5/7/12

I just wanted to send out a couple of reminders and information.

Friday is Morning with Mom. I hope to see every mom here at 8:00-8:30. Your child has been working very hard on your Mother’s Day presents. Remember NO siblings.

Field trip permission slips and money are due by Friday. We will be going to Fantastic Caverns on May 18th . Please make sure to pack your child a lunch for the park in a disposable bag. If it rains we will still go to the cave but we will come back to school for lunch.

Kindergarten graduation is on May 17th. Your child will be coming home tonight with an announcement. It will be at 2p.m. in the cafeteria. The ceremony will be around 30 mins. long. If you would like to take your child with you after this event you may. I will bring all students back to our classroom and you may pick them up there. Please do not ask Mrs. Becky to call down for siblings. She will not be able to get that many students from their classrooms. You will have to come back for them at the end of the day. If you need to go back to work I understand. I will keep the remaining students with me and we will continue the day as normal.

Yellow cards were due two weeks ago. Please get those filled out and returned to the office ASAP.

Newsletter Week of 4/30/2012

Hope this finds you having a good monday!

We have several students that have NOT yet returned the yellow cards that were sent home a couple weeks ago. If you are returning to Gray or not you MUST complete the yellow card and return it to the office ASAP.

This week in phonics we will discussing the -ip word family.

We will also be focusing on the long sound of vowels.

In math we will be focusing on writing numbers to 100 by 5′s and 10′s.

The MAP basketball game is tomorrow at 1:50. If you purchased a Game Day t-shirt, please have your child wear it tomorrow- Tuesday May 1st.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!!!!!

I just wanted to let everyone know that family Fun Night is approaching
quickly, it is Saturday May 5th! Each
class is responsible for putting together a basket that will be raffled off at
Fun Night, these baskets are filled with Items that parents/relatives/friends/businesses/ whomever
would like to help support Wanda Gray School donate!  The
Theme for the basket this year is “Family Fun” Items could be tickets to movies,
sporting events, Jump Mania, Mini golf, Go carts, zoo ect.. or gift cards to any restaurant or stores! It
could be outdoor play; sprinkler’s, slip-n-slides, water balloon
slingshots, sidewalk chalk, washers ect… any
kind of games. Cash donations would be great also! Anything you can
donate is GREATLY appreciated!!   So far Mrs Gray class has not gotten
any donations yet! Also there will be a “Cake Walk” and they would like each
class room to get at least 10 treats for it! It does not have to be only cakes or
cupcakes they are also asking for bags of candy, little Debbie snacks,
fruit snacks any kind of treat! Anything you could do would help!

Newsletter Week of 4/23/2012

April23

What a GREAT performance that was on Thursday!!! Fantastic job Kindergarten!!!

There are some odds and ends we need to take care of: PLEASE return the small yellow cards and purple sheets that were sent home last Monday. If you are NOT returning to Gray School next year, just write your child’s name and print “not returning” across the top.

Field trip permission forms will be sent home next week.

We are having our last Spelling Test this week. Our words are: come, look, her, here. Sentence: Look! Here she comes! There will not be a challenge word test this week.

In phonics we are continuing with word families. We will also be starting digraphs- ch, sh, wh, th.

In math we will be revisiting the 100′s chart as several friends are struggling writing numbers 1-100.

Newsletter Week of 4/16/2012

Our Kindergarten Performance is THIS Thursday, April 19th. Please have your child in the classroom at 6:45. I will not be available until 6:45. Please have your child dressed in their orange shirt and demin bottom UNLESS they have a speaking part. Also, PLEASE take your child to the restroom before dropping them off in the classroom. Thank you!!

The book fair will be open the evening of our performance. This is a good opportunity to shop with your child.

The Spelling Words this week are: from, for, with, said. We will not have challenge words this week. The sentence is: I went for a walk with him.

We are learning about plants, their parts and needs this week.

We are also discussing the number words from 1-10.

Newsletter week of 4/9/2012

Greetings Parents,

Please take some time to read over the Upcoming Important Events section. We have a lot of things coming up, and this will allow you to mark your calendars. As events become closer, I will send home more details.

April 19th is our very special Kindergarten Musical. Your child will need to wear their Kindergarten orange shirt and denim pant/skirt/short. Please drop your child off in my classroom at 6:45 all dressed and ready. It would be helpful if you could stop by the bathroom with them before dropping them off. The program will begin at 7p.m. in the cafeteria.

Newsletter Week of 4/2/2012

April2

It’s hard to believe we only have 7 more Mondays left this school year! It’s really been a fast year!!

Please return the white grade card envelope. If the grade card didn’t come home in an envelope, it wasn’t returned last time.

This week in Phonics we are focusing on the -ig word family. The students are having fun learning all the different words they can make with word famililies!

Spelling words: the, they, this, them.  Sentence: They will go with them.

Challenge words- yellow, say, want, yes.

There’s several papers coming home today. One is the April homework packet and the reading sheet. This is our last one so lets all try and do our homework!

Our Kindergarten Musical is coming up on April 19th at 7:00 PM. There is a flyer in your child’s backpack today! Each class has 5 students with speaking parts. I chose the names randomly. If your child has a speaking part, the script will also be coming home. I have highlighted the parts. PLEASE practice with your child at home. We will NOT be using class time to practice. They will be practicing in music class.

On May 11th we will have Muffins with Mom from 8:00-8:30 AM. We can only have one “mom” per child. However, if you are not able to take off work to join us, an aunt, grandma, or adult female friend can attend with your child. This is part of our Mother’s Day gift to you. More information to come.

Save the Date: Kindergarten Graduation will be May 17th at 2:00. Look for an invitation to follow in May.

We are going on our last Field Trip to Fantastic Caverns on May 18th. I will be sending home the permission slip the last week in April.

Our last day of school is May 23rd. We will dismiss at 1:00! WOW

Newsletter Week of 3/26/2012

March26

I hope everyone had a great Spring Break.

This week in the orange room:

Phonics: We are discussing the -og word family. Today we made a Log Cabin with some of our -og words in it. Please have your child read you the words. We will continue the week with the -og family.

Spelling: In spelling this week, we will be reviewing 10 of our previous words. They are: see, have, and, that, you, by, has, as, went, he. We will not have a sentence this week. There are no challenge words for this week.

In your childs backpack today, you will find a packet titled “Spell Well” this is a collection of things you can do at home to make studying spelling words more fun.

CCI: In CCI this week, we are going to be sorting shapes according to the number of sides. To help us with this, we will be doing a variety of activities including making a human graph, learning a song, and using our smartboard.

Before spring break we focused on telling time to the hour. All 20 students were able to do this at the end of the week. Good Job Smarties!

Math: This week in math we will be learning about making bundles of 10 and why it is useful. We have been doing this all year during calendar math, however now we are focusing on the why.

Congratulations to Connor, Baylea, Thalia, and Alex for having perfect Attendance!!!!!!!

Scholastic Book Fair will be in the library April 12-19th. If you are interested in volunteering to work, please contact Ms. Bueno.
